There is such a storyline in the old Polish film “Gangsters and Philanthropists”. One man was fired from his job because he negligently caused a small explosion at his place of work in a chemical laboratory. This poor fellow walks into a restaurant and, out of grief, orders himself a glass of vodka and an appetizer - herring with bread. In sad thoughts, he mechanically pulls out a hydrometer from his breast pocket and begins to stir the vodka in the glass with it. The restaurant staff thinks that this is an auditor checking the strength of the drink (whether the vodka is diluted with water3), and gives him a bribe. Our unemployed chemist realizes what’s what, and begins to “chemize” in other restaurants in Warsaw in the same way.
