Abstract

Based on the results of the analysis of the operation of the existing shaft plasma furnace, a promising design of the melting chamber of the plasma furnace with a productivity of 250–300 kg of waste per hour was proposed for the modernization of the plasma furnace of the Plasma Processing Complex for Radioactive Waste of the Novovoronezh NPP.

The proposed furnace design has an axisymmetric shape with a uniform arrangement of 4 plasma torches. Data on the dimensions and materials of the plasma furnace are provided. The design of the furnace provides for the use of both plasma torches and bottom heaters, which increases its reliability. Thermal calculations of the operation of the melting chamber of a plasma furnace were performed for various options, which showed the possibility of using the selected design. A method has been proposed for upgrading the existing plasma furnace of the Plasma Processing Complex for Radioactive Waste at the Novovoronezh NPP by replacing it with the proposed design.
