The material presented in the article is devoted to important events in the history of the Russian Engineering School (Bauman Moscow State Technical University): the 125th anniversary of the birth of Vladimir Vasilyevich Uvarov, the first gas turbine engineer of the USSR, and the 75th anniversary of the formation of the Department of Turbine Engineering at the Faculty of Thermal and Hydraulic Machines. The expansion of the scope of application of gas turbines is shown, in particular, as part of a key (turbopump) unit of powerful liquid rocket engines with a thrust of more than 100 tons. It tells about the peculiarities of the interaction of teachers of the department with graduates for many years after they received their diploma. The process of formation of a researcher of the highest category - graduates of the department - after his distribution to the Central Institute of Aviation Engine Engineering named after P.I. Baranov is traced.
