The transformation of the world economy towards the preferential use of energy resources with a low carbon footprint, called the global energy transition, began in the second decade of the 21st century and has been gaining momentum since then. We can identify three main drivers of the energy transition:

1) American shale revolution, which provided a new source of oil and gas and expanded psychological

boundaries of technological progress;

2) international climate policies that set low-carbon development for countries and companies;

3) development of production technologies, delivery and use of liquefied natural gas, which promotes the convergence of regional gas markets and provides additional flexibility to energy systems.
